River Shebelle is rising water at highest level and the heavy rainfals has already caused catastrophic floods in different locations in middle shabelle region Jowhar and Mahaday districts the floods affected number of villages, the floods resulted displacement, loss of properties, isolation of village, destruction of farmlands product ,more so the heavy rains embaded the main road links to Mogadishu and central regions for two positions Garsale and Qalimow, huge water of rains created flash floods and cut of the road, and also it is raining this may increase the next days, the reports coming from Hiraan region says that the River shabelle extremely rising water at abnormal , since Ethiopian highlands have heavy rains and this resulted the town of Baladwayn River shabelle flooded.
The heavy rains and river flooding caused Catastrophic flood that lead Disease outbreaks such as Water borne illnesses that resulted Cholera, AWD and vector borne illnesses such as Malaria affected the vulnerable groups. High rates of food insecurity persist in the region and further weaken the resilience of displaced communities. Elderly, woman, girls and young children are particularly vulnerable.
ORDO emphasized the importance of urgent assistance and said “Given the grim realities, it is imperative that efforts to mitigate and minimize human suffering be timely and effectively coordinated. After conducting a rapid assessment in the said villages in Middle Shebelle Region affected by the river flooding and heavy rain falls, we are urgently calling for an emergency humanitarian assistance to address urgent needs of IDP households in the region.
