In 2014, ORDO, with the financial support of WFP, implemented a food provision and rehabilitation programs aimed at supporting and restoring food security, nutrition and establish or build livelihoods in fragile settings. This program improved the socio-economic situation of 800 women and contributed towards food security at the household level through a Food – for – Work Program.
Our income generating programs focus mainly, though not exclusively, on women and girls affected by the war, who in Somalia, make up the main breadwinners of the family unit.
In 2008, ORDO, with the financial support of WFP, implemented an Adult Literacy Program which sought to empower women and youth through vocational training in business, health education, first aid, tie and dye, garment making, computer, and through non Formal Education in Literacy and Numeracy. Our income generating programs focus mainly, though not exclusively, on women and girls affected by the war, who in Somalia, make up the main breadwinners of the family unit.
In 2004, ORDO, and UNICEF jointly rehabilitated the Youth Multipurpose Centre (YMPC) in Jowhar to provide a space for the youth to engage in recreational activities that are non-threatening and that promote positive development. Today, this center consists of a theatre with a capacity to accommodate an audience of more than 200 people, a meeting hall, and a playground, a room for indoor recreational activities and/or Non Formal Education (NFE) classes, a counseling room and an Internet café. UNICEF provided a TV set, a VHS set, a projector, a desktop, a printer and library books, while ORDO installed cabling for internet services and provided 10 computers equipped with internet capacity.
